ABOUT Nicholas DeStefano BSN, RN, CNOR

Nicholas's background makes him a dreamer and believer. Growing up in Polk County, Florida he found ways to stay out of trouble with activities such as Paintball, Wrestling and different clubs after school. He found an interest in Chess, Cultures and Technology. Other interests he found enjoyable in school were Math, Sciences and Anatomy that he excelled at. He perused these skills to find a career he would like. Shadowing his friend's moms who were nurses he took the opportunity later in high school to go on a nursing leadership forum to Boston, Mass. He enjoyed many aspects of this experience and continued to pursue nursing. Through many days, nights of sacrifice and different universities as steppingstones Nicholas succeeded in getting his degree. This was all done while working. Finally passing the board after a year was another step in in believing and the reality of Nicholas's story one to dive more into within my blogs. Some great reads will come that show full circle steps and details to the believers and dreamers in us all.

Work and Job Duties:

As the Operating Room (OR) Manager, Nicholas helps oversee daily operations and ensures the smooth flow of the patient care continuum. He approaches his role by viewing it through multiple perspectives — the patient’s experience, the needs of the staff, the expectations of physicians, and the goals of leadership. Nicholas works to bridge the gap between these groups by promoting understanding of the overall care experience and focusing on continuous improvement. He actively reviews key metrics and staff survey feedback to guide enhancements in operations and team engagement. While administrative responsibilities often keep him in the office, Nicholas finds the greatest fulfillment in rounding within the ORs and being present with his team.

  • Manage over 150 staff members.
  • Oversee operations of a 19-room OR suite.
  • Provide services across all specialty service lines.
  • Handle budgeting responsibilities and approval processes.
  • Bridge the gap in care by evaluating the overall patient experience through metrics and survey reviews.

Why Did You Choose a Career in Nursing?

Nicholas was drawn to nursing through his strong aptitude for science and math, combined with a deep desire to help others. Inspired by friends' mothers who were nurses and witnessing their passion for the profession firsthand, he took the initiative to shadow several of them in their work environments. To further explore his calling, Nicholas attended a nursing leadership forum during his senior year of high school, which affirmed his decision to pursue a career in nursing.
